WHAT EXPERTS THINK OF KAMCHATKA

Julia Phillips, Writer

Kamchatka may be the most spectacular place in the world. This volcanic peninsula is as epic as Alaska, as otherworldly as Iceland, and as rich with wildlife as a nature reserve. And after spending a year and a half traveling here, I am confident that Slava and Alisa are the best guides you could find. They know how to experience the best of this place while preserving its beauty for the next visitor.

Julia, a New York writer has visited the major tourist and non-tourist locations in Kamchatka: she was a volunteer for the main dog-sled event "Beringiya" in the Northern part of the peninsula, helped the rangers in the Valley of Geysers and lived in a yurt with indigenous people in the heart of Kamchatka.

Her book about this miraculous land is about to be issued next year.

Fred Strebeigh, Naturalist

Kamchatka, more than any other place on earth, is a place that I dream of traveling again.  Hiking the volcanic highlands of Kamchatka means crossing flower-filled meadows beneath splendid snow-capped cones.  Kayaking the indented coast of Kamchatka means riding the undulating Pacific Ocean among bobbing sea lions.  Sitting next to the burbling geysers of Kamchatka feels like listening to a musical instrument, an organ created by the depths of the earth.    I first met Slava Batashov when I was writing an article for BBC <http://www.strebeigh.com/kronotsky-zapovednik-2014.html>, about one of the many places in Kamchatka that Slava knows superbly, and I hope for future travels with his team/company/organization.  -- Fred Strebeigh, Senior Lecturer in Yale University, naturalist and adventurer

Team

meet the team

Born and raised in Kamchatka, Alisa and Slava have always been involved in the peninsula's tourism life.

Alisa used to work as a guide and a travel agent in a helicopter company, while Slava dedicated a part of his life to the wild and protected areas being a ranger in one of the largest nature preserves in Russia which led him to his own tourism business in Kamchatka.

They are currently happily living in Vancouver in winter time and dreaming to show their homeland in summer to the travellers from their new home - Canada.

Our team will be even more exciting as we'll have more people involved in this project to make your adventure special!

About Kamchatka

did you know?

Kamchatka is not an island but a peninsula in the Far East of Russia, however it is not linked to the mainland by any means of ground transport. The only way to reach the peninsula is by air.

The area of the peninsula is half of the British Columbia's area. It has vast territories of wilderness, however some of them has still not been properly studied. The people in Kamchatka live in the neighbourhood of active volcanoes: there are 300 volcanoes in total, 30 of which are currently active!

Funny fact:"Kamchatka is closer to Vancouver than to Moscow"

The most of the population (80%) lives in three cities, while the total number in Kamchatka of people is only 300 000 which makes the peninsula one of the least populated areas in the country.

Kamchatka used to be a restricted military area for many years until 90s. As soon as it became open to travellers, at first the peninsula attracted scientist mostly. Some of explorers believe that Kamchatka is a natural laboratory where we can be explorers and observe, how the Life on the Earth is being born.

Some fascinating travels may seem uncomfortable at the first sight, but end up terrific eventually.

For now Kamchatka is the perfect place where you'd rather find yourself in the middle of the wilderness, than in a fancy hotel with 24/7 services available.

If you are ready for an adventure of your lifetime, prepare for unlimited amazing experience with wild animals, rugged mountains, breathing Earth and the endless Pacific Ocean.
